Target Information
Neurogenin 1 (NeuroG1) is a basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factor involved in determining cell type during development. It plays dual roles in cell-fate specification, functioning in neurogenesis while inhibiting the differentiation of neural stem cells into astrocytes. NeuroG1 promotes neurogenesis by acting as a transcriptional activator and inhibits astrocyte differentiation by compartmentalizing the CREB-binding protein transcription complex and suppressing STAT transcription factors essential for gliogenesis.
