Target Information
The human alanyl-tRNA synthetase (AARS) belongs to a family of tRNA synthases, classified as class II enzymes. These enzymes are highly conserved across species, with 498 of the 968 residues of human AARS sharing 41% identity with the E. coli protein.
tRNA synthases interpret the RNA code and attach specific amino acids to tRNAs containing the cognate anticodons. They consist of a catalytic domain interacting with the amino acid acceptor-TψC helix of the tRNA and a secondary domain interacting with the rest of the tRNA structure.
