Target Information
The human alanyl-tRNA synthetase (AARS) belongs to a family of class II tRNA synthases, which are highly conserved across species. Class II tRNA synthases evolved early in evolution, and 498 of the 968 residues in human AARS share 41% identity with the E. coli homolog. These enzymes interpret the RNA code and attach specific amino acids to tRNAs containing the cognate anticodons. They include a catalytic domain interacting with the amino acid acceptor-T psi C helix of the tRNA and a second domain interacting with the rest of the tRNA structure.
