Target Information
KappaB ras-1 (kappa-B-ras-1) and kappaB-ras-2 are small Ras-like GTPase proteins that associate with Ikappa-B, an inhibitor of the transcription factor NF-kappa-B. Ikappa-B exists in two homologous forms, Ikappa-B-alpha and Ikappa-B-beta, with Ikappa-B-beta containing a unique 47-amino acid region within its ankyrin domain. While Ikappa-B-alpha–NF-kappa-B complexes shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm, Ikappa-B-beta–NF-kappa-B complexes are retained in the cytoplasm. KappaB-ras proteins preferentially bind to Ikappa-B-beta through this unique insert, modulating its cellular localization and degradation rate.
