Target Information
Biglycan (BGN) is a small cellular or pericellular matrix proteoglycan structurally related to decorin and fibromodulin. It is believed to arise from a gene duplication event with decorin. While decorin contains one glycosaminoglycan chain, biglycan likely contains two, hence its name. Biglycan functions in connective tissue metabolism by binding to collagen fibrils and modulating growth factor-beta activity. It may also promote neuronal survival.
