Target Information

RGS14 is a member of the regulator of G-protein signaling family which contains one RGS domain, two Raf-like Ras-binding domains (RBDs), and one GoLoco domain.
RGS14 attenuates G-protein signaling activity by binding to activated, GTP-bound G alpha subunits through its GoLoco domain, acting as a GTPase activating protein (GAP) to accelerate GTP hydrolysis to GDP.
This process allows reformation of inactive G-protein heterotrimers, terminating the signal. Alternate splice variants of RGS14 have been observed but not fully characterized.
RGS14 also modulates microtubule polymerization and spindle organization, plays a role in cell division, is required for NGF-mediated neurite outgrowth, and contributes to stress resistance.
It may also be involved in visual memory processing and hippocampal-based learning and memory.
