Target Information
PROZ (Protein Z) is a vitamin K-dependent plasma glycoprotein of approximately 62 kDa and 396 amino acids. It contains four domains: a Gla-rich region, two EGF-like domains, and a trypsin-like domain lacking the catalytic serine residue.
Although not enzymatically active, it is structurally related to serine proteases in the coagulation cascade (factors VII, IX, X, and protein C).
Protein Z binds phospholipid surfaces through carboxyglutamate residues and plays a role in accelerating the degradation of factor Xa via protein Z-related protease inhibitor (ZPI).
Deficiency of PROZ has been variably associated with both thrombosis and bleeding tendencies.
