Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
Trefoil peptides are protease-resistant molecules secreted throughout the gut that play a role in mucosal healing and protection of the gastrointestinal epithelia. These peptides contain three intrachain disulfide bonds forming the trefoil motif (P-domain).
Trefoil factor 2 (TFF2), also known as spasmolytic polypeptide (SP), functions to inhibit gastrointestinal motility and gastric acid secretion. It may act as a structural component of gastric mucus by stabilizing glycoproteins through interactions with carbohydrate side chains.
Downregulation of SP expression is associated with primary gastric cancer, and progressive loss of this protein may be involved in early stages of gastric carcinogenesis.
