Target Information
This gene was initially identified as a locus (RP26) associated with an autosomal recessive form of retinitis pigmentosa (arRP) disease. It encodes a protein with ceramide kinase-like domains, but does not phosphorylate ceramide and its substrate is unknown. The protein may act as a negative regulator of apoptosis in photoreceptor cells. Mutations cause autosomal recessive cone and rod dystrophy (arCRD). Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants and non-coding transcripts. [RefSeq, May 2010]
