Target Information
Leukocytes adhere to the blood vessel endothelium during extravasation in postcapillary venules of lymph nodes. Leukocyte adhesion also occurs in capillaries and small venules after inflammation onset, involving a cascade of adhesion receptors.
Selectins are C-type cell surface lectins that mediate leukocyte adhesion to endothelial cells.
E-selectin (CD62E) is an endothelial-specific selectin expressed only after activation by proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1, TNFα, and bacterial components (e.g., lipopolysaccharides), via an NFκB-dependent signaling cascade.
E-selectin is associated with vascular endothelium in various inflammatory conditions.
