Target Information
The leptin (OB-R) receptor is a member of the cytokine receptor superfamily that plays an important role in mammalian body weight homeostasis and energy balance. Activation of OB-R by leptin triggers signaling through the JAK/STAT pathway. Several OB-R isoforms with different signaling capabilities exist. The OB-R long form is expressed in the choroid plexus and hypothalamus, key centers for satiety and energy expenditure regulation. Mutations in the OB-R (db) or leptin (ob) genes in mice lead to early-onset obesity and metabolic abnormalities such as hyperinsulinemia, insulin resistance, and increased adipose tissue mass.
