Target Information
Apoptosis plays a major role in organism development, tissue homeostasis, and removal of damaged cells. Disruption of this process has been implicated in diseases such as cancer.
Aven is a protein that blocks apoptosis induced by Apaf-1 and caspase-9. It is thought to function by binding to Bcl-xL and Apaf-1, potentially interfering with Apaf-1 self-association and caspase activation.
Higher levels of Aven mRNA are observed in patients with acute leukemia compared to controls, suggesting its potential as a prognostic indicator.
