Target Information
Initiation of transcription from protein-coding genes in eukaryotes requires RNA polymerase II and several basal transcription factors. TFIID binds to the TATA box, initiating formation of a multiprotein complex including TFIIA, TFIIB, TFIIE, TFIIF, and TFIIH.
TFIIH (BTF2) is a multisubunit transcription/DNA repair factor with enzymatic activities. Its core includes subunits p89 (XPB/ERCC3), p62, p52, p44, and p34. Additional components include p80 (XPD/ERCC2) and a kinase complex (Cdk7, cyclin H, MAT1). Both p89 and p80 exhibit ATP-dependent helicase activity, while p62, p52, and p44 participate in nucleotide excision repair.
