Product Specific Information

  • Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
  • Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.

Target Information

This gene encodes the coagulation factor XIII A subunit. Coagulation factor XIII is the last zymogen activated in the blood coagulation cascade. Plasma factor XIII is a heterotetramer composed of two A subunits and two B subunits. The A subunits have catalytic function, while the B subunits serve as plasma carrier molecules. Platelet factor XIII consists only of two A subunits, identical to those of plasma origin. Upon cleavage by thrombin and in the presence of calcium, plasma factor XIII dissociates its B subunits and yields the active enzyme factor XIIIa. This enzyme acts as a transglutaminase, catalyzing gamma-glutamyl-epsilon-lysine crosslinking between fibrin molecules, stabilizing the fibrin clot. It also crosslinks alpha-2-plasmin inhibitor or fibronectin to the alpha chains of fibrin. Factor XIII deficiency is categorized as type I (lack of both A and B subunits) or type II (lack of A subunit only), resulting in lifelong bleeding tendency, defective wound healing, and habitual abortion.
