Target Information
F-Box and WD Repeat Domain Containing 7 (FBXW7) is a member of the F-box protein family characterized by the F-box motif (~40 amino acids). These proteins form part of the ubiquitin ligase complex SCF (SKP1–Cullin–F-box), which functions in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination.
FBXW7 belongs to the Fbws class containing WD-40 domains and includes 7 tandem WD40 repeats. It binds directly to cyclin E and likely mediates its ubiquitin-dependent degradation. Mutations in FBXW7 have been found in ovarian and breast cancer cell lines, suggesting a role in cancer pathogenesis. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms exist for this gene.
