Target Information
The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is commonly activated in various tumor cells and plays a crucial role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression.
Phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as GSK3, CDK, ERK2, and JNK regulates c-Myc function. Studies indicate that c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis in tumor development.
The c-Myc oncogene is involved in normal cellular proliferation and differentiation, while deregulated expression induces apoptosis.
Amplification of c-Myc has been reported in lung, breast, and colon carcinomas, and translocations involving the c-Myc locus are described in Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell proliferative disorders.
Aberrant expression of c-Myc occurs in tumors of various origins including colorectal, gastric, hepatic, mammary, ovarian, and hematopoietic neoplasms.
