Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- For staining of formalin-fixed tissues, heat sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 minutes at 95°C, then cool at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
Ep-CAM (epithelial adhesion molecule, ESA) is a transmembrane glycoprotein (~40 kDa) expressed in epithelial cells. It mediates Ca²⁺-independent homotypic adhesion and influences cell cycle, proliferation, and metabolism through induction of c-myc, cyclin A, and cyclin E.
Ep-CAM overexpression is linked to enhanced epithelial proliferation and is a marker for epithelial tumors. It is highly expressed in human carcinomas and found on basolateral surfaces of simple epithelia. Ep-CAM can distinguish adenocarcinomas from pleural mesotheliomas.
