Target Information
AQP4 (Aquaporin 4, also known as mercurial-insensitive water channel) is localized to the sarcolemma of fast-twitch skeletal muscle fibers. Aquaporins (AQPs) are integral membrane water transport channels that facilitate water movement across cell membranes. This function is conserved across animals, plants, and bacteria.
In mammals, multiple isoforms (AQP0–AQP10) exist and may co-express within the same cell. While most AQPs are selective for water, AQP3, AQP7, AQP9, and one AQP10 transcript also transport urea and glycerol.
