Target Information

Glutamate-activated ion channels are divided into two classes:

• NMDA receptors (NMDAR): sensitive to N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)
• AMPA receptors (AMPAR): activated by alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxalone propionic acid (AMPA)

AMPARs are composed of four distinct Glutamate Receptor Subunits (GluR1–4) and play key roles in excitatory neurotransmission in the brain.
The GluR2 subunit is involved in synaptic plasticity mechanisms such as long-term depression (LTD).
