Target Information
MC1R (Melanocortin Receptor 1) mediates the effects of melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH) and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH).
MSH and MC1R are key regulators of melanogenesis, controlling the ratio of red pheomelanin to black eumelanin in the skin by increasing eumelanin production.
Non-functional or truncated forms of MC1R lead to lighter pigmentation, while constitutively active forms result in darker coloration.
