Product Specific Information
- Use: IFN-γ exerts activity in the range of 0.1–10 ng/mL for most in vitro applications.
- Reconstitution and Dilution:
- Reconstitute in distilled water to 100 µg/mL.
- Dilute cytokine in a neutral buffer containing carrier protein (5–10% FBS or 1–4% high purity BSA).
- Storage:
- Lyophilized product is stable below 0°C when desiccated.
- After dilution, aliquot and store at -70°C.
- Maintain concentration >500 ng/mL to reduce activity loss.
Target Information
IFN-γ (Interferon gamma, Type II interferon) is a macrophage activation factor and immune interferon produced primarily by T-lymphocytes and natural killer cells in response to antigens, mitogens, and cytokines.
It is a dimeric glycoprotein (~45 kDa) consisting of two 146-amino-acid subunits, showing strong species specificity — human IFN-γ does not cross-react with mouse IFN-γ.
Functions include:
- Antiviral and tumor antiproliferative activity
- Induction of MHC class I and II expression
- Macrophage activation
- Enhanced immunoglobulin secretion by B lymphocytes
- Cytokine regulation and synergistic interactions with other cytokines
Activation occurs via IFN-γ receptor I and II, triggering the JAK-STAT signaling pathway.
Human IFN-γ shares ~40% sequence homology with mouse IFN-γ.
Expression is upregulated by IL-2, FGF basic, and EGF, and downregulated by vitamin D3 or DMN.
Mutations in the IFN-γ gene are associated with aplastic anemia.
