Target Information
Fibronectin type III domain-containing protein 5 (FNDC5), the precursor of irisin, is encoded by the FNDC5 gene. It is a secreted protein released from muscle cells during exercise and may play a role in the development of brown adipose tissue. Translation of this protein initiates at a non-AUG start codon conserved across species. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
