Target Information

alpha-Internexin is a Class IV intermediate filament subunit expressed very early in neuronal development. It is related to, but distinct from, the neurofilament triplet proteins (NF-L, NF-M, NF-H), sharing similar sequence motifs and intron organization.
Many mature neurons contain alpha-Internexin in addition to NF-L, NF-M, and NF-H, while in some it is the only neurofilament subunit expressed.
Antibodies to alpha-Internexin serve as unique probes to study neuronal types and processes in tissue sections and cultures.
Its early developmental expression makes it a useful marker for neuronal progenitor cells and cells committed to the neuronal lineage.
Potential applications include studies of brain development and neuro-oncology.
