Target Information
GPI-anchored HDL-binding protein 1 (GPIHBP1) is a novel protein involved in the regulation of fat delivery to cells for energy and storage. Fats are digested and packaged into chylomicrons in the small intestine, which transport triglycerides through the bloodstream to tissues or adipose cells. Lipoprotein lipase (LpL) hydrolyzes triglycerides, and GPIHBP1 facilitates the capture of chylomicrons and their interaction with LpL. In the absence of GPIHBP1, fats in the bloodstream are not efficiently metabolized.
