NCSTN (Nicastrin)은 type I transmembrane glycoprotein을 인코딩하는 유전자로, multimeric gamma-secretase complex의 필수 구성 요소입니다. 이 단백질은 Notch receptor와 beta-amyloid precursor protein을 절단하며, gamma-secretase 복합체의 안정화에 필요한 보조 인자로 작용합니다. Beta-amyloid precursor protein의 절단은 알츠하이머병의 주요 병리학적 특징인 amyloid beta peptide를 생성합니다. 또한, NCSTN 유전자 변이는 familial acne inversa와 관련이 있습니다. 해당 유전자의 pseudogene은 염색체 21에 존재합니다.
