Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the highly conserved cyclin family, characterized by periodic changes in protein abundance during the cell cycle. Cyclins regulate CDK kinases and form complexes with CDK4 or CDK6, essential for the G1/S transition. Cyclin D3 interacts with and phosphorylates tumor suppressor protein Rb. CDK4 activity associated with Cyclin D3 is required for cell cycle progression through G2 phase into mitosis after UV radiation. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
Diseases associated with CCND3 include Retinoblastoma and Plasma Cell Leukemia.
