A BLAST analysis suggests cross-reactivity with human and hamster based on 100% sequence homology. Cross-reactivity with HDAC5 from other sources has not been determined.
Target Information
Histones are key regulators of transcription, cell cycle progression, and development. Histone acetylation/deacetylation modifies chromosome structure and influences transcription factor access to DNA.
HDAC5 belongs to the class II histone deacetylase family, exhibiting histone deacetylase activity and transcriptional repression when tethered to a promoter. It coimmunoprecipitates with HDAC3 and interacts with MEF2 proteins to repress MEF2-dependent genes. HDAC5 is associated with colon cancer, and two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
