Product Specific Information

A 1:1,000 dilution of PA5-77822 was sufficient for detection of Kir4.1 in 15 µg of rat liver cell lysates by ECL immunoblot analysis using goat anti-rabbit IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody. Detects approximately 42 kDa.

Target Information

The KIR (inwardly rectifying potassium channel) family allows potassium to flow preferentially into cells.
KIR4.1 (also known as Kir1.2) is highly expressed in the brain, particularly in glial cells, astrocytes, and cortical neurons. It is also found in myelin-synthesizing oligodendrocytes and plays a crucial role in myelination during nervous system development.
The human KIR4.1 gene maps to chromosome 1.
KIR4.2 (Kir1.3) is expressed in kidney, lung, heart, thymus, and thyroid during development and maps to chromosome 21, possibly contributing to Down syndrome pathogenesis.
KIR5.1 forms functional channels only when coexpressed with KIR4.1 or KIR4.2 in kidney and pancreas.
