Target Information
Prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells respond to thermal and chemical stress by inducing heat shock genes. In eukaryotes, this regulation occurs primarily at the transcription level via heat shock transcription factors (HSF1 and HSF2).
HSF1 and HSF2 are upregulated by estrogen at both mRNA and protein levels. HSF1 exists as a monomer under normal conditions and becomes active upon trimerization and nuclear translocation. HSF2 is associated with differentiation and development, and also binds DNA as a trimer. Both are induced by proteasome inhibitors of the ubiquitin pathway.
