Description:
The OKT4 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD4, a 59 kDa cell surface glycoprotein expressed by most thymocytes, a subpopulation of mature T cells (T-helper cells), and at low levels on monocytes. CD4 acts as a receptor for the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The OKT4 antibody recognizes a different epitope than the RPA-T4 monoclonal antibody, and these do not cross-block each other’s binding.

Flow cytometric analysis and immunoprecipitation.
Applications Tested:
Tested by flow cytometric analysis of normal human peripheral blood cells. Recommended usage ≤1 µg/test (100 µL final volume). Cell number may range from 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test. Antibody should be titrated for optimal performance.
Purity: >90% (SDS-PAGE)

Target Information
CD4 antigen participates in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and functions as a co-receptor for HIV. It is primarily expressed on T-helper lymphocytes, and to a lesser extent on monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. CD4 expression is found in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain non-lymphoid tissues such as brain and gut. CD4 contributes to early T-cell activation via interaction with the TCR complex and Lck kinase. It may also mediate neuronal damage in infectious or immune-related CNS disorders. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
