Target Information

This gene encodes a component of vacuolar ATPase (V-ATPase), a multisubunit enzyme that mediates acidification of eukaryotic intracellular organelles. V-ATPase-dependent organelle acidification is essential for intracellular processes such as protein sorting, zymogen activation, receptor-mediated endocytosis, and synaptic vesicle proton gradient generation.

V-ATPase consists of:

  • V1 domain (cytosolic): three A and three B subunits, two G subunits, and C, D, E, F, and H subunits. Contains the ATP catalytic site.
  • V0 domain (transmembrane): five different subunits (a, c, c′, c″, d).

Multiple isoforms and alternatively spliced transcript variants exist. This encoded protein is one of two V1 domain A subunit isoforms and is expressed in all tissues. Transcript variants derived from alternative polyadenylation exist.
