PTPRD는 단백질 티로신 인산화효소(PTP) 계열에 속하며, 세포 성장, 분화, 유사분열 주기 및 종양 변환과 같은 다양한 세포 과정을 조절하는 신호 분자입니다. 본 단백질은 세포외 영역, 단일 막관통 부위, 그리고 두 개의 연속된 세포내 촉매 도메인을 포함하는 수용체형 PTP입니다. 세포외 영역은 세 개의 Ig-like 도메인과 여덟 개의 fibronectin type III-like 도메인으로 구성되어 있습니다. 조류 및 초파리의 유사 유전자 연구를 통해, 이 단백질이 신경 돌기 성장 촉진 및 신경 축삭 안내 조절에 관여함이 시사되었습니다.
