This antibody detects endogenous levels of total PEX5.
Target Information
The PEX5 gene product binds to the C-terminal PTS1-type tripeptide peroxisomal targeting signal (SKL-type) and is essential for peroxisomal protein import. Peroxins (PEXs) are required for the assembly of functional peroxisomes.
Peroxisome biogenesis disorders (PBDs) are genetically heterogeneous, autosomal recessive diseases characterized by multiple defects in peroxisome function. These include neonatal adrenoleukodystrophy (NALD), Zellweger syndrome (ZWS), and infantile Refsum disease (IRD).
Although clinical features vary, cells from all PBD patients show defects in importing peroxisomal matrix proteins. Alternative splicing results in multiple isoforms.
