Target Information
Fox-3, also known as NeuN, HRNBP3, or RBFOX3 (RNA binding protein, fox-1 homolog C), is a 350-amino-acid protein containing one RRM (RNA recognition motif) domain. It localizes to both the nucleus and cytoplasm and is implicated in regulating alternative splicing events.
Fox-3 is encoded by a gene located on human chromosome 17, which comprises over 2.5% of the human genome and encodes more than 1,200 genes. Two key tumor suppressor genes on this chromosome, p53 and BRCA1, are crucial for genetic integrity and DNA repair mechanisms. Malfunction or loss of p53 expression is associated with malignant cell growth and Li-Fraumeni syndrome. BRCA1 is recognized as a determinant of early-onset breast cancer and predisposition to ovarian, colon, prostate, and fallopian tube cancers.
