Neurofilament heavy polypeptide (NF-H) is one of the major intermediate filament proteins found specifically in neurons. It plays a key role in maintaining neuronal caliber and axonal integrity. NF-H expression is tissue-specific and developmentally regulated, and it is implicated in neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
