Target Information
Leucine-rich repeat transmembrane neuronal proteins (LRRTMs) are differentially expressed in the nervous system and play roles in synaptic differentiation.
LRRTM3 promotes processing of amyloid-precursor protein (APP) by beta-secretase BACE, leading to production of A-beta42 peptide, a major component of amyloid plaques.
LRRTM3 maps to a region of chromosome 10 linked to late-onset Alzheimer’s disease and elevated plasma A-beta42 levels, suggesting its involvement in AD pathogenesis.
