Target Information
Heme oxygenase는 heme 대사에서 중요한 효소로, heme을 biliverdin으로 절단하며, biliverdin은 biliverdin reductase에 의해 bilirubin으로 전환됩니다. 또한 carbon monoxide를 생성하며, 이는 신경전달물질로 작용할 수 있습니다. Heme oxygenase는 heme 및 다양한 비-heme 물질에 의해 유도됩니다. 두 가지 이소효소인 inducible heme oxygenase-1 (HMOX1)과 constitutive heme oxygenase-2 (HMOX2)가 존재하며, 이들은 heme oxygenase 패밀리에 속합니다. 이 유전자에서는 세 가지 다른 isoform을 암호화하는 여러 alternative splicing 변이체가 보고되었습니다.
