Target Information
Copper (Cu) is an essential trace metal acting as a cofactor for many enzymes. Genetic disorders such as Menkes and Wilson diseases result from disrupted Cu homeostasis. CTR1 is a high-affinity copper uptake protein; its C-terminal domain resembles the Raf family of kinases, while the N-terminal region contains a novel domain. CTR1 is the primary route for copper uptake in mammalian cells, influencing Cu homeostasis and embryonic development.
