Product Specific Information
This antibody detects endogenous levels of SGOL1 only when phosphorylated at Ser14.
Target Information
The SGOL1 gene encodes a member of the shugoshin family, which protects centromeric cohesin from cleavage during mitotic prophase by preventing phosphorylation of a cohesin subunit. Reduced expression leads to premature loss of centromeric cohesion, mis-segregation of sister chromatids, and mitotic arrest. It may also protect cohesin along chromosome arms during mitosis. An isoform lacking exon 6 is involved in centriole cohesion. Mutations are associated with Chronic Atrial and Intestinal Dysrhythmia (CAID) syndrome, combining Sick Sinus Syndrome (SSS) and Chronic Intestinal Pseudo-obstruction (CIPO). Fibroblast cells from CAID patients show increased proliferation and senescence. Pseudogenes exist on chromosomes 1 and 7, with multiple transcript variants due to alternative splicing.
