SMAD 단백질은 transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) 수용체 신호전달 경로의 핵심 구성요소인 MAD-related 단백질 계열에 속합니다.
SMADs는 다음과 같이 구분됩니다:
- Receptor-regulated SMADs (R-SMADs): SMAD1, 2, 5, 8, 9
- Common-mediator SMAD (Co-SMAD): SMAD4
- Inhibitory SMADs (I-SMADs): SMAD6, 7
SMAD1, 5, 8, 9는 높은 상동성을 가지며, 이들 모두를 인식하는 항체가 존재합니다.
