Target Information

IRF3 (Interferon Regulatory Factor 3) is a key transcriptional regulator of type I interferon (IFN)-dependent immune responses.
It plays a critical role in the innate immune response against DNA and RNA viruses by regulating transcription of IFN-alpha, IFN-beta, and interferon-stimulated genes (ISG).
IRF3 is inactive in the cytoplasm of uninfected cells and becomes activated through phosphorylation by IKBKE and TBK1 upon viral infection or toll-like receptor signaling.
This activation promotes dimerization, nuclear localization, and association with CREB binding protein to form dsRNA-activated factor 1 (DRAF1), which drives IFN and ISG gene expression.
Mutations in IRF3 can lead to acute, infection-induced encephalopathy (herpes-specific 7).
