Target Information
Aurora kinases are associated with microtubules during chromosome movement and segregation. AURKB (Aurora B) localizes to microtubules near kinetochores, specifically to K-fibers. This complex is involved in chromosome alignment, separation, histone modification, and cytokinesis.
The chromosomal passenger complex (CPC) includes INCENP, survivin, and borealin, which regulate Aurora B activity, localization, and stability. Two CPC forms exist during mitosis: one containing all four members and another consisting of INCENP and Aurora B. The full CPC functions in chromosome alignment and cytokinesis, while the INCENP–AurB complex may modify histone H3.
AurB is overexpressed in several tumors, including breast and colon cancers, and its expression correlates with Aurora-A kinase, suggesting a feedback mechanism.
