Target Information
The Rhomboid family of proteins consists of widely conserved polytopic membrane serine proteases involved in growth and development.
RHBDD1 is highly expressed in the testis and participates in the cleavage of BIK, a proapoptotic member of the Bcl-2 family.
Overexpression or suppression of RHBDD1 in 293 cells modulates BIK-mediated apoptosis.
In GC-1 spermatogonia cells, RNAi-mediated suppression of RHBDD1 expression causes loss of survival and differentiation ability in mouse seminiferous tubules, suggesting a role in mammalian spermatogenesis.
