Target Information
Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, composed of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit containing 4 RNA species and ~80 distinct proteins.
This gene encodes a ribosomal protein component of the 40S subunit, belonging to the S3AE family, and is located in the cytoplasm.
Disruption of the rat ribosomal protein S3a gene (also known as v-fos transformation effector protein) in v-fos-transformed rat cells results in phenotype reversion.
The gene is co-transcribed with U73A and U73B small nucleolar RNA genes located in introns 3 and 4.
Multiple processed pseudogenes are dispersed throughout the genome, and alternatively spliced transcript variants exist.
