Target Information

Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, composed of a small 40S and a large 60S subunit. These subunits contain 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins. The RPS3A gene encodes a ribosomal protein component of the 40S subunit, belonging to the S3AE family, and localized in the cytoplasm. Disruption of the rat RPS3A gene, also known as v-fos transformation effector protein, leads to reversion of the transformed phenotype in v-fos-transformed rat cells. The gene is co-transcribed with U73A and U73B small nucleolar RNA genes located in its introns. Multiple processed pseudogenes and alternatively spliced transcript variants exist.
