Target Information
The eIF3e protein is a component of the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 (eIF-3) complex, essential for multiple steps in the initiation of protein synthesis.
This complex associates with the 40S ribosome and facilitates recruitment of eIF-1, eIF-1A, eIF-2:GTP:methionyl-tRNAi, and eIF-5 to form the 43S preinitiation complex (43S PIC).
It stimulates mRNA recruitment and scanning for AUG recognition, and is involved in ribosomal recycling and prevention of premature subunit joining.
Additionally, eIF3e plays a role in nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) and may interact with MCM7 and EPAS1 to regulate proteasome-mediated degradation.
