Target Information
VE-cadherin is a calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein and a member of the cadherin superfamily. It is located within a six-cadherin cluster on chromosome 16 and is implicated in loss of heterozygosity events in breast and prostate cancer.
VE-cadherin comprises five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail. It mediates homophilic cell adhesion and plays a key role in endothelial cell cohesion and junction organization.
An alternative splice variant has been described, though the full-length sequence has not been determined.
