Target Information
CAP-E and CAP-C (Chromosome Associated Protein-E & C) are SMC (Structural Maintenance of Chromosome) family members forming a heterodimeric complex required for mitotic chromosome condensation and proper segregation of genetic information during cell division.
hCAP-C/hCAP-E is a component of the condensin complex that interacts with phosphorylation of Histone H3, contributing to mitotic chromosome condensation.
The distinct distribution patterns of the two heterodimeric complexes in the interphase nucleus indicate independent behavior during the cell cycle, suggesting involvement in different aspects of mitotic chromosome organization in human cells.
