Target Information

Adrenomedullin (ADM) is a vasodilator produced by most contractile cells and is characterized by persistent hypotensive activity. It plays an important role in regulating fluid and electrolyte homeostasis and maintaining cardiovascular function. In hypertensive patients, plasma ADM levels are elevated. ADM also exhibits strong natriuretic actions, increasing glomerular filtration rate and reducing distal tubular sodium reabsorption. ADM is present in both the periphery and brain, where it can exert central effects such as reducing food intake.
