Target Information
SERPINC1 encodes a plasma protease inhibitor and member of the serpin superfamily. This protein inhibits thrombin and other activated serine proteases of the coagulation system, regulating the blood coagulation cascade. It has two functional domains:
- Heparin-binding domain at the N-terminus
- Reactive site domain at the C-terminus
Its inhibitory activity is enhanced by heparin. Over 120 mutations have been identified, many causing antithrombin-III deficiency.
